30 Years of Progress: Access, Opportunity & Inclusion
Skills Inc. is proud to support the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) 30th Anniversary. Signed into law by President George H.W. Bush on July 26th, 1990, this important civil rights law prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.
We hope you will join us in celebrating this milestone, as well as continue to advocate and work toward workforce inclusion for people with disabilities.
Visit the DOJ’s ADA Anniversary webpage to learn more about the ADA’s history and impact. You can also access free information and trainings on the Americans with Disabilities Act on the ADA National Network’s website.
The Employer Assistance and Resource Network on Disability Inclusion (EARN) is a free resource that helps employers tap the benefits of disability diversity by educating public and private-sector organizations on ways to build inclusive workplace cultures. EARN offers information and resources to empower individuals and organizations to become leaders in the employment and advancement of people with disabilities.
EARN is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) under a cooperative agreement with The Viscardi Center. Learn more on their website.
National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), observed every October, celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities and educates employers about disability employment issues. This year’s theme is “America’s Workforce: Empowering All.” ODEP, The Office of Disability Employment Policy, has released the 2018 poster, now available to download and order.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month(NDEAM). Since 1945, NDEAM has sought to educate employers about disability employment issues and celebrate the many and varied contributions of America’s workers with disabilities. This year’s national theme is “My disability is one part of who I am.”
Skills Inc. is proud to support NDEAM and honored to demonstrate that “a strong workforce is an inclusive workforce”. Over 60 percent of our 600+ employees have a self-identified disability, while our products and services exceed demands for rigorous standards and excellence. We encourage all employers to embrace a culture of acceptance where people of all abilities thrive.
Take part in NDEAM by participating in one or more of the below events. The Office of Disability Employment Policy, (ODEP) website also provides various ways to celebrate the month, including “31 Days of NDEAM – What you CAN do!“.
